Youth Tour

Big Dreams and Future Leaders

Taylor Electric Cooperative believes in local students who have big dreams. That’s why the cooperative partners with Texas Electric Cooperatives and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association to send young leaders on the Government-in-Action Youth Tour each June. Youth Tour is a week-long trip to the nation’s capital where top high school students across the country get the opportunity to visit historic sites and improve leadership skills.

President Lyndon B. Johnson explained it well when he initiated the program in 1957 by saying, “sending youngsters to the national capital where they can actually see what the flag stands for and represents.”

See first-hand how the political process works, meet exceptional leaders and attend tours of Capitol Hill, the Supreme court, the Smithsonian and more.

Youth Tour is rewarding, educational and fun! Watch history books come alive right before your eyes.

ELIGIBILITY: 

  • Students who live in a home powered by Taylor Electric Cooperative or attend a school powered by Taylor Electric Cooperative (Abilene Christian, Hawley, Merkel, Trent and Wylie) are eligible to apply. 
  • Students must be a junior or senior and between the ages of 15 and 20 at time of application.
